DOCOMO PACIFIC Typhoon Mawar Restoration Update - 5/27/23

Tamuning, Guam (May 27, 2023) – DOCOMO PACIFIC, the regional leader in innovation, telecommunications, & entertainment, shares latest restoration updates and what customers can expect in the coming days.

Hafa Adai, we appreciate your patience and understanding during this outage period. Our hardworking technology crews have been out of the field non-stop since the morning after Typhoon Mawar hit on May 25. Since that time, island-wide assessments have been ongoing in Guam, Saipan, Tinian and Rota. 

For our Guam customers, we would like to share the following updates: 

Mobile Services: 

We are happy to report that the majority of our cell sites did not suffer major damage due to Typhoon Mawar. The primary issue at this time is getting island power restored to the sites. We are working closely with GPA as they restore services. When an area has been re-energized, our team will move quickly to restore service in those areas. In the meantime, we have deployed generators at strategic sites to maximize coverage, and to ensure a stable power supply for as many mobile sites as possible. Because our critical facilities and cell sites are currently relying on generators, we are in close discussions with Guam Homeland Security and GovGuam to add DOCOMO PACIFIC rapid response teams to the list of essential services for vehicle, facility, and generator re-fueling. 

To our customers in the Southern villages, our initial assessments show that our fiber network supporting several sites sustained storm damage. This means that even if we were to power these sites with a portable generator, there is no connectivity at this time. This is on our list of high priorities and will keep you updated on our progress. 

Fixed Services (Home/Business Internet, Landlines, and Cable TV):

At this time, we are prioritizing getting our Mobile Network up and running to keep our customers connected. We are prioritizing restoration to public safety and health care facilities. Once these are restored, we will proceed quickly to restore fixed services. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding.
