DOCOMO PACIFIC joins with AT&T to support FirstNet Deployment in the region

TAMUNING, GUAM (July 23, 2019) – DOCOMO PACIFIC was recently selected by AT&T to help support the deployment of FirstNet– America’s public safety communications platform – in both Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).

FirstNet delivers a single, nationwide network platform that’s purpose-built to enhance communications across the entire public safety community. FirstNet is available to all first responders – career and volunteer, urban, rural or tribal. And it’s bringing public safety communications into the 21st century with new, innovative capabilities, helping first responders connect to the critical information they need – every day and in every emergency. FirstNet is being built with AT&T in a public-private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority) – an independent agency within the federal government.

Our island communities are all too familiar with the destructive forces nature can bring to our region. The key to staying ready and responding is effective and reliable communication— which is exactly what FirstNet is designed to enable for our region’s first responders.

Roderick Boss, DOCOMO PACIFIC President and CEO

Based on the collaboration with AT&T, DOCOMO PACIFIC will provide access to its existing LTE network coverage and capacity while helping to build out additional LTE coverage with the FirstNet Band 14 spectrum.

We’re pleased to support the FirstNet mission. This will help transform the way Guam and CNMI’s Public Safety and emergency officials share information quickly when they need to most. So, when lives are on the line, we can rest assured knowing our public safety officials are equipped and have the necessary tools to communicate with our island community.

Roderick Boss, DOCOMO PACIFIC President and CEO

Boss adds as the biggest and widest telecommunications provider in the Marianas, it was a natural partnership for DOCOMO PACIFIC and FirstNet. When Super Typhoon Yutu struck the CNMI in October 2018, DOCOMO PACIFIC’s mobile network remained intact both during and after the storm, keeping families connected through one of the biggest storms in history. This was made possible by DOCOMO PACIFIC’s undersea cable system which survived Super Typhoon Yutu unscathed.

Additionally, DOCOMO PACIFIC is an authorized member of AT&T’s FirstNet Dealer Program, which means it can sell FirstNet services to eligible current and future public safety customers. This will help get FirstNet’s game-changing technology into the hands of first responders throughout the region.
